Seventy years ago, a group of idealists—butchers, pharmacists and newsagents—set aside their day jobs to honour the 1956 Mozart bicentenary with a season of four operas. From those humble beginnings, Opera Australia grew over seven decades into a major force on the world operatic stage, attracting legends from Australia and around the globe.
Celebrate this remarkable legacy at the 70th Anniversary Gala, a milestone concert featuring the full forces of the Opera Australia Chorus and Orchestra Victoria, alongside a stellar line-up of singers.
Leading from the podium is Giampaolo Bisanti, a sought-after conductor at the world’s great opera houses, renowned for his versatility and passionate, meticulous approach to the repertoire. He is joined by Sydney-born Sam Weller, a recent finalist in the International Conducting Competition.
Together, Victorian Opera Artistic Director Stuart Maunder and Giampaolo Bisanti present a program of thrilling operatic highlights that honours our past while looking confidently to the future.
